With a plethora of booking agencies offering low cost holidays, it’s easy to see how they often wind up on the receiving end of less than complimentary narratives on internet review sites, forums and blogs. Therein lies a problem.
Get things in perspective
The internet is awash with thousands of pages bemoaning the dreadful experiences of disappointed holiday makers. But should we really be taking it all in and planning our next trip based on some of these reviews? It doesn’t follow that low cost holidays are going to be the trip of a life time; neither does a low price signal a forthcoming regretful experience. Budget holidays may simply reflect the level of service one can expect to enjoy, or limitations that may be implemented on certain aspects – availability of a blanket on a no-frills airline, for example. If we’re going to book a budget holiday, it makes sense to check out what’s included and what we might have to pay extra for. We wouldn’t buy a car without first checking out its service history, so why would be book a holiday without asking all the right questions beforehand? It helps if we understand what we’re reading in the brochures or on the websites. Make allowances for clever photography, perhaps; along with artistic license which abounds in most marketing blurb where promotion of holidays is concerned.
Holidays on a Shoestring
Granted, it’s often the shoestring end of the market which gets the bad press, as any problems that customers experience are commonly to do with flights or accommodation – the two critical factors of any holiday abroad. If there’s a delay because the one outbound plane to Italy suffers a bird strike, you can bet that there’ll be a delay at least to the sum total of hours it takes the plane to recover and complete its inbound flight. Rest assured and according to the BBC, low-cost airlines were just as interested in safety as other companies. So, aside from these types of operational difficulties, travellers can be confident that their no-frills flight is just as safe as any other flight – delayed or otherwise.
It is unfair that cheap flights and cheap package holidays have a bad name
Give it a break
The price attests to what’s on offer and as customers, we must be reasonable from the outset in understanding what we are paying for. Our holiday experience should then be as memorable as it ought to be. It doesn’t pay to be unrealistic in our expectations; since the budget holiday does not profess to be anything other than what it is; a money saving experience.
Poor council lamentable
Choosing a holiday that is priced at the lower end of the range on offer is certainly no bad thing. There are lots of very good deals out there, with plenty of opportunities for taking the sting out of what is arguably one of our biggest annual expenditures. Hence, cheap package holidays have a bad name that I don’t think they deserve. On the contrary, the poor council reflected in some reviews in no way speaks for all budget holidays. Package holidays do not deserve to be tarred with the same brush, rather, considered for the value that they represent.
